Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree trains educators with extensive basic skills who are used to interacting in multidisciplinary groups. Such training provides students with disciplinary integration through some monodisciplinary teaching modules to convey a unified but interdisciplinary approach.
This includes knowledge of organ morphology and functioning, human body apparatuses and systems, expertise on major human diseases as well as methods and tools to identify and treat them. Particular attention is given to mental health problems, medical genetics, physical medicine and rehabilitation. Graduates shall be able to recognise the main human reactions to diseases, suffering and institutionalisation, respect behavioural differences related to culture and religion, establish and maintain help relationships with the assisted person and their family. To this end, this Degree conveys basic knowledge in Psychology and social dynamics: students can hence identify situations of distress relating to cultural and communicative processes taking into account environmental and local issues, as well as economic and employment aspects.
Graduates master preventive medicine as well as health promotion methods and can thus implement them. They can then encourage free, informed and responsible choices to prevent diseases and enhance well-being for both individuals and their community, with particular reference to health education and literacy. They can interact and actively cooperate with interprofessional and/or interinstitutional teams to schedule and manage complex education activities and plan educational and rehabilitation projects for everyday-life recovery and participation.

This Degree qualifies graduates as Professional Educators. Graduates are professionals who carry out education and rehabilitation projects with a multidisciplinary team pursuant to Ministerial Decree of the Italian Ministry of Health No 520 of October 8, 1998. Such projects aim at a balanced personality development with educational and relational goals for everyday-life participation and recovery. Successful psycho-social inclusion or reintegration of individuals in difficulty is thus taken care of. They can: help to arrange social and health facilities and resources; operate with families and in patients’ social contexts; participate in study, research and documentation activities; contribute to student and staff training as well as to updating and health education activities.
Professional educators can work as freelancers or employees in the public and private sector, ASL (Italian local health authorities), services for drug addicts, prisons, communities for physically or mentally disabled people, day-care centres, care facilities for children family counselling, schools, etc.
Those who plays the role of socio-cultural animators can diversify their activities and work with local administrations within events and fairs, projects for local tradition enhancement, environmental education and knowledge of local areas.
