The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” has established a first-level Master's program in “Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy and Exercise Therapy” (Fisioterapia Neuromuscoloscheletrica ed Esercizio Terapeutico).
The program is delivered entirely in English.
The educational program is based on the standards of the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT). It promotes global excellence in accordance with the clinical and academic benchmarks for manual physiotherapists specialised in musculoskeletal disorders, aligned with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF-DH) model.
The core aim of the program is to develop advanced competencies in both clinical reasoning and the application of specific treatment and exercise therapy techniques.
These competencies are achieved through the integration of various clinical approaches, enabling participants to select and apply concepts and techniques from different schools of manual therapy, manipulative techniques, and therapeutic exercise—grounded in a deep understanding of clinical anatomy, relevant medical specialities, and other fundamental disciplines.
Scientific and clinical evidence, together with the biopsychosocial model of each patient, represent the key foundations for planning and evaluating the therapeutic program.
The Master's program is open to those who hold one of the following
qualifications:
A first-level degree (pursuant to Ministerial Decrees 509/99 and 270/2004) in the healthcare area of Physiotherapy, or a university diploma qualifying for professional practice, or an equivalent/equated qualification pursuant to Article 4 of Law No. 42 of February 26, 1999.
Non-EU students residing in Italy with a valid residence permit for work or study purposes are eligible for enrollment. Current regulations govern the enrollment of non-EU students residing abroad.
Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by an officially legalised translation into Italian and by a “dichiarazione di valore” (statement of validity) issued by the Italian diplomatic authorities in the country where the qualification was obtained, or by a CIMEA certificate.
The entry qualification must be held at the time of enrollment, before the start of the educational activities.
Auditors are allowed to attend the Master's program.
