Description and Teaching Objectives
This Degree falls into two Degree classes, i.e. LM-45 Musicology and Musical Heritage and LM-65 Show and Production Science, and it is divided into two curricula, i.e. Musicology and Performing Arts. At the time of enrolment students shall choose a Class and a curriculum; such choice can be changed during the following year.
This Degree conveys high expertise in the chosen Class but with a focus on integrating the two areas of Music and Entertainment, which is why it is defined as an interclass.
Students acquire specific scientific, historical, theoretical, technical, methodological and operative skills concerning art culture in the fields of music, performing arts and visual communication. Hence, they can critically apply them when designing and creating works. Such training stimulates and sharpens advanced skills in planning and producing musical, theatrical and film events, as well as in managing musical, theatrical, film, television and radio facilities.
The Curriculum in Musicology ensures thorough historical and theoretical knowledge of both cultivated or art music (Musicology) and ethnic or popular music (Ethno-musicology). Students can use specific search tools relevant to these disciplines (bibliographies, directories, digital archives), and related technological equipment, in addition to the main investigation methods in historical, archival, theoretical, analytical, organological and ethno-musicological fields. Internships and traineeships in important musical institutions facilitate their integration into the labour market, while various laboratory activities (Ethno-musicology, Choral Music, Library Science and Music Archival Science) complete theoretical studies with practical experience and musical research.
The Curriculum in Show and Production Science deepens students’ knowledge of theatre, cinema and new media, including laboratory work (cinema and theatre). Particular attention is paid to the analysis of directing, the art of acting, dance, screenplay and documentation - both from a historical and methodological point of view at national and international level with specific focus on career opportunities in the industry.
Career Opportunities
Graduates can: perform high-responsibility or managerial functions within public and private institutions, libraries, archives, film libraries, museums, organological and music collections, production companies (theatres, record companies, concert institutions, film festivals, distribution, marketing and production); operate within institutions and enterprises interested in musical, theatre and audiovisual heritage; work as specialised consultants for companies and professionals in the music and entertainment industry; operate in the field of communication and cultural dissemination or for traditional publishing and media activities; compete for academic access to further levels of scientific research and postgraduate education (PhD schools, Master Degrees, postgraduate schools and so on).
Graduates know how to use the main audiovisual, computer and telematic communication tools for the purposes of documentation, scientific study, communication and to plan and realise efficient artistic synergies between new performance modules and new electronic media.
