Description and Teaching Objectives

Mission – Our mission is to provide our students with the knowledge and tools especially geared towards a biochemical, psychological, social and territorial perspective of the medical profession.

The course is characterized by a multidisciplinary and integrated approach in disease prevention and health promotion. The training is primarily patient-oriented, involving community-based health centers and hospitals for a varied human and rich clinical experience.

In the curriculum, there is a vertical and horizontal integration across all years. Integrating clinical and basic science across the curriculum, developing new models for clinical reasoning and engaging students in an in-depth and long-term experience, is also part of our objective.

The course is held entirely in English though we offer our foreign students Italian language courses to communicate with the patients.

Current legislation lays down six years of study totaling 360 ECTS, 60 of which for vocational training through educational activities designed to develop specific professional skills.

The course is organized in 12 semesters and 36 integrated courses. These correspond to specific ECTS assigned by the Council of the teaching body and comply with the table of mandatory training activities.

Each ECTS corresponds to a 25-hour commitment per student:
generally 8 class hours, or 12 laboratory or tutorial hours, or 20 hours of tutored study within a local educational structure as stated in the Didactic Regulation.

Each vocational ECTS corresponds to 25 working hours per student:
20-hour vocational activities tutored by a teacher in small groups within a local educational structure plus a 5-hour individual revision on such activities.

The teaching process takes advantage of modern educational tools, such as tutorial systems, clinical trigger, problem-oriented learning, experiential learning, problem solving, decision-making and extensive use of seminars and conferences.

The presence of tutoring teachers is strong: they are involved in students’ training processes with teaching functions (i.e. area tutors) and support functions (i.e. personal tutors).

Particular attention is paid to the acquisition of practical skills.

Career Opportunities

Graduates work as doctors (M.D.) in various roles and in different clinical, healthcare and biomedical professional environments.Furthermore, the Degree is a compulsory requirement to enroll into Medical Specialty Schools.
